The Story of Our House
Our House was founded in 1978 by Mattie Maran. Mattie believed that seniors needed a "home" that would allow them their independence and dignity when they could no longer live alone. At the time Our House was built the only other option was to go to a nursing home. This same philosophy is still being carried out today by Mattie's daughter Marguerite Van Derwyst. Marguerite stepped in after Mattie's retirement in 1999 as Owner and Director. It was an easy transition due to the fact that Marguerite has been on staff since the construction of Our House began. "I believe in my mother's philosophy that our residents are able to have structure in their lives while maintaining their independence."
